PROPHECY AGAISNT GOG

PROPHECY AGAISNT GOG

(From Ezekiel Chapter 38)
Leslie M. John

The prophecy in Ezekiel is about the time period after the thousand-year-literal rule of Lord Jesus Christ from the throne of David in Jerusalem. The children of Israel, who are gathered from the nations, and became a nation again, will live victoriously in the center of the earth. They were once a nation under God, and because of their rebellion against Him, they were scattered among nations. It seemed that they were extinct never to resurrect again, but it was not so. The LORD brought them together and gave them their nation again and made Hebrew language their national language again. This prophecy against Gog, which is in two parts (Ezekiel 38:1-23 and Ezekiel 39:1-29), is about the final defeat of Satan in the hands of Lord Jesus Christ. Although the war before the “millennium” (Revelation 19:11-21) appears to be the final battle it is not so. Considering the details presented in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 the final battle is yet to take place. Satan will be released after the thousand-year reign of Lord Jesus Christ.

Gog was the prince of Rosh, of the land of Magog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal and a son of Joel, of the tribe of Reuben (1 Chronicles 5:4)

Satan goes “out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them to battle”.

“And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:8-10)

The LORD said to Ezekiel, as written in Chapter 2:1, “stand on your feet, and I will speak with you.”

Ezekiel the prophet was called the “Son of man” several times in this book (Cf. Ezekiel 3:1; 3:3-4; 3:17; 3:25 etc.). The LORD said to him to set his face toward the mountains and prophecy against them and to prophesy against Gog and say “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal”

Is it not delightful to watch fisherman catch fish or great sharks, by the stinger hooks that clutch the jaws of the fish or shark, which then are drawn out of the waters with power. If that be so, how delightful it would be when the enemy of Israel is clutched by the stinger that the LORD casts and draws him out of his army, horsemen! It surely is going to happen.

The LORD said to Ezekiel to prophesy that He was against Gog, and He will turn him about, and put hooks into his jaws, and bring him out and his entire army, horses and horsemen. The LORD will pull out Gog from his protective shield. Gog, who comes as clothed with great armor, a great host, and shielded with buckler wielding swords will be pulled out by the LORD as a fish from out of water.

The LORD identified three regions that are common enemies of Israel; and they are “Persia”, “Cush”, and “Put”. Gomer and all his borders were with shield and helmet. Many people from Beth-togarmah from the uttermost of the north with all their hordes will come along with Gog against the children of Israel.

The LORD says to the huge army that comes against Israel that they will struggle for many days to protect themselves. They will go against the land whose people were gathered. Their enemies advance, coming like a storm when the children of Israel are like cloud covering the land. Their enemies and all their hordes and many people accompany them to destroy Israel.

The children of Israel were gathered from many peoples of the world to come and live upon the mountains of Israel. These mountains, which were waste lands for many years are inhabited now and all the children of Israel will live securely under God.

The LORD says, on the day when the Gog’s wicked thoughts surface from his mind he and other nations in league with him will device an evil scheme to go up against the land of Israel, and the villages which are not protected with walls, and fall upon quiet people. Seeing that they have no bars or gates they go to seize the spoils of the land and carry off the plunder of the children of Israel.

It is because enemies of Israel rage against them, the LORD says to Ezekiel to prophesy, to question Gog as to how he and his helpers would not know that the children of Israel, who are God’s people, will securely dwelling under His care.

Enemies turn their hands in vain against those waste places, which are now inhabited and have acquired livestock and goods because the LORD protects the nation of Israel and the children of Israel will live victoriously in the center of the earth. Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and their leaders will say to the children of Israel “have you come to seize spoil? Have you assembled your hosts to carry off plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to seize great spoil?”

The prophets of old have prophesied for many years that the LORD will bring Gog against the children of Israel in order that He may pour out his wrath upon them. The word of the LORD will surely come to pass when Gog comes against the land of Israel. According to His word, He will vindicate Hs holiness before Gog’s eyes. When Gog and his armies come like clouds covering the land from uttermost parts of the north, riding on horses, a great host and as a mighty army against Israel, the LORD will pour out His wrath against them. The LORD says He will give multitude of Gog (Hamongog) a place there of graves in Israel.

“And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog” (Ezekiel 39:11)

This is the declaration of the LORD by the mouth of the prophet Ezekiel that that Gog will come against the land of Israel causing the LORD’s anger to rouse. According to the LORD’s declaration the following disasters will come upon the people of Gog.

1. The LORD declares in his blazing wrath that there will be great earthquake in the land of Israel
2. The fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the earth shall quake at the LORD’s presence.
3. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs fall and every wall will tumble to the ground.
4. The LORD will summon a sword against Gog on all His Mountains.
5. The hatred among people grows so much that every man will turn his sword against his brother.
6. The LORD will judge them with pestilence and bloodshed.
7. He will rain upon Gog his hordes and many people who are with him torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur.

So will the LORD show His greatness and His holiness and make Himself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that He is the LORD.
