“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”
(John 1:1)

The expression “In the beginning” was first used in Genesis 1:1. In the words of
John the “Word” here points to “God” mentioned in Genesis 1:1. The LORD was
before the creation. He created heavens and the earth and all that is therein.
The “Word” was in existence before the creation. This is not about the man
Jesus; but it is about that which became the man, the incarnate God in Jesus, as
John writes in John 1:14. It reads…

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John

Obviously, it means Jesus is not a creature or created being but the “Word” was
before the mountains were brought forth, or ever the earth and the world were

Psalmist says…

“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth
and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God” (Psalms 90:2)

“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am”
(John 8:58)

More references as to who Jesus was are found in John 17:5; 6:62; 3:13; 6:46;
8:14; 16:28. Jesus is the “Son of God” who is the “Word” because He is the One
through Him the Father communicated to us and promulgated His will and issued

The “Word” was with God and the “Word” was God. It implies the intimacy of the
Son of God with the Father, and His divinity. He was the partaker of the divine
glory. No man has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son of the Father was
in the bosom of the Father and He declared unto us the Truth (cf. Hebrews 1:

“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom
of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18)

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom
he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being
the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding
all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat
down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:1-3)

John makes it clear that no man has ascended up to heaven, but only Lord Jesus
Christ who came down from heaven, who was in heaven has ascended up to heaven.

“And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even
the Son of man which is in heaven” (John 3:13)

Apostle Paul makes it much clear to us.

“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But
made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was
made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled
himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and
things in earth, and things under the earth” (Philippians 2:6-10)

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are called “Synoptic Gospels”. According
to Webster’s dictionary Synopsis means a general view. The Gospel of John stands
out as unique in presenting Jesus as the Son of God. John concludes his Gospel
by writing that he did not write all that Jesus did inasmuch as they were too
many to be recorded (John 20:30-31; John 21:25). The emphasis John lays is on
the fact that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing this
fact we may have life through His name.

The Gospel of Matthew emphasizes on the lineage of Lord Jesus Christ that He is
from Abraham and through David, and that He is the Messiah about whom Old
Testament prophets spoke. (cf. Matthew 1:17). The Gospel of Mark emphasizes that
Jesus is the servant (Mark 1:9). The Gospel of Luke emphasizes that Jesus is the
perfect one tracing back his lineage up to Adam (Luke 3:23-38)

John’s Gospel is considered as the best book with respect to evangelism. The
first few verses from Chapter 1 of John’s Gospel speak of fundamentals. Speaking
of Jesus Isaiah the prophet writes:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall
be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)

John 1:6 records about John the Baptist who was forerunner of Lord Jesus Christ
and he prepared the way before Him (cf. Malachi 3:1; Matthew 11:10; Mark 1:2;
Luke 1:76, and Isiah 40:3-5)

Jesus is the mediator of the covenant.

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling,
that speaketh better things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24)

Jews earnestly desired to see Messiah, their long prophesied Savior. However,
when Jesus came they refused Him as the Messiah and crucified Him. The Samaritan
woman knew that Messiah would come and she said “when he is come, he will tell
us all things” (cf. John 4:25). She went and witnessed about Jesus and many
heard of him and knew that Jesus was indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world
and believed.

“And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have
heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the
world” (John 4:42)

Can we see the plan of God to save even Gentiles besides Jews His own people?
