As far as the east is from the west, So far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12

Leslie John

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:12)It is interesting to note that the Number forty signifies testing period in Scriptures. Jonah preached saying:

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown” (Jonah 3:4)

The significance of this number, “forty” was great inasmuch as in the life of Jesus, who lived on this earth only for thirty and half years, spread the message of repentance and the “kingdom of God that was at hand” for three and half years. Before starting his ministry upon this earth, Jesus fasted for forty nights and forty days in the wilderness. It was forty days and forty nights that there was rain during Noah’s period.

Moses spent forty years in Pharaoh’s house as a child and young man, and fled to Midian after killing an Egyptian, who was ill-treating one of his kinsmen and there he lived for forty years in that strange life with his wife, and looking after his father-in-law Jethro’s sheep and had two children there. After that he rose up as a leader of Israel with a call from none other than God himself, and led Israelites for forty years and sadly he himself could not enter Canaan, the Promised Land because of his small disobedience.

While the life of Moses ended before seeing the promised land of Canaan, the death of Lord Jesus Christ was a glorious one upon the cross of Calvary for the remission of sins of man. Jesus was humiliated by his own men, who crucified him for no fault after beating up in unimaginable ways. Jesus bore all the suffering for the sake of saving you and me from the sins and to give eternal life for us. The salvation is at hand to any person who confesses sins and accepts Jesus Christ as his/her personal savior and say by mouth that he is the Lord.

The message of the Gospel is very simple and it is,

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16

When there is no hope we will find hope in Jesus Christ who promised eternal life.

If we confess our sins to him. God says He will separate us from our sins: “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” Psalms 103:12.

It is true. Once we confess us sins to God and accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior we are saved. I have heard this message when I was young boy and I am happy that I confessed my sins to God and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior.

We do not know how far east is from the west but we know that they are opposite poles, and , as born-again children of God, we do know that our sins are removed from us as far east is from the west. God said that He will never remember our sins after cleansing us from our unrighteousness.

“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25)

“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Hebrews 10:14-17

“Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” Luke 15:7
