“And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them” (Acts 4:24 ESV)

Peter and John were let go by the chief priests and elders who in vain tried to prevent them from preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People knew that the miracle performed by them was from God. Peter himself had acknowledged that John and he were only the instruments in the hands of God and it was God who healed the lame man.

Peter and John went to their friends’ house, after being let go by the authorities, and told them all that had happened to them as a consequence of the healing of the lame man by the hand of God through them. When they heard the news they lifted their voices and praised God, acknowledging that the Lord was Sovereign, and it is He who made the heaven and the earth and everything in them, and also the sea and everything in it.

The LORD spoke by the mouth of David many years ago and questioned as to why the kings of the earth do set themselves in rage against the LORD and imagine in vain things against Him and His anointed Son, Lord Jesus Christ, saying “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” The LORD who sits on the throne laughs at them in derision and says to Jesus Christ that He is the begotten Son of God.

The Father said to the Son that He gave the nations as heritage to the Son, and the ends of the earth as His possession. Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, will “break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like potter’s vessel”.

”Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him”. (Psalms 2:12)

Mighty kings, princes, wise men, and dictators have come and gone but none lived, and ruled like our living God, who is eternal. He rules the earth. He is there everywhere. Man’s thoughts are not God’s thoughts. His ways are higher than ours. He is mightier than anyone. When man takes refuge in his own strength and wisdom the Lord will have him in derision.

The Father says He has set Jesus upon the holy hill of Zion. This is a prophecy and it is about the thousand year peaceful reign of our Lord Jesus Christ from the throne of David. The Father promises that the uttermost parts will be given to the Son for his possession. Jesus is the Son of God and he shall break the mighty men with iron rod and he breaks them as the rod strikes a potter’s vessel. There were mighty men such as Sihon, king of Amoties, Og, the king of Bashaan, and Goliath in Philistine army but none prevailed against God and the children of Israel.

Sihon, king of the Amorites, opposed and tried to prevent in vain the Israelites to pass through his territory. The result was that he was defeated and Israelites not only took possession of his cities but they had their way through the land of Amorites. (Numbers 21:21-24)

Og, the king of Bashan, who was ruler over sixty cities, went out against Israelites but God assured Moses of his help and he defeated Og, the king of Bashan and took possession of his land. (Numbers 21:33-35)

There was a mighty man in Philistine army and his name was Goliath. David, a shepherd boy, son of Jessy, miraculously defeated the mighty Goliath, with the help of the Almighty God. David hurled one of his five smooth stones that he chose from the brook, from his sling that struck on the forehead of Goliath, who fell face down on the ground. David pulled out Goliath’s sword from his sheath and killed him (cf. 1 Samuel 17:40-51)

“Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled” (1 Samuel 17:51)

There were other mighty men like Alexander the great, Napoleon, Hitler, etc. Some of them were great and some of them were very dangerous; but all of them died. Many dictators who stood strong defiantly in the recent past fell down and lost their eminent positions. Above all is our living God and His only begotten Son, Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior, who rule the earth. Is anyone now greater than these mighty men? If not, then let one know that everything is in our living God’s control.

Psalmist points to antitype in Psalm Chapter 2 and exhorts, therefore, to serve Jesus with fear and rejoice. There is an interesting phrase used and it is”Kiss the Son”. It is not an advice for us to kiss our sons but it is an exhortation to worship the Son of God, Lord Jesus Christ. It is very good that we kiss our sons, but here in this context it is not an exhortation to kiss our sons but it is an exhortation to worship the Son of God, Lord Jesus Christ. There is warning that if we do not worship the Son of God he would be angry and we may perish from the way. Psalmist says that those who put their trust in the Lord will be blessed.

Let us say as the children of Israel said when Joshua challenged them with a question as to whom they prefer to serve; whether it is idols or the living God! They all answered and said without any hesitation: ”We will serve the LORD”.

“And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD”. (Joshua 24:21)

Peter and John and their friends asserted that Herod, Pontius Pilate, Gentiles and the People of Israel gathered together and crucified Lord Jesus Christ and they did according as it was determined by the eternal counsel of the Almighty God. They pleaded with the LORD to grant them the boldness to counter the threatening, and courage to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They prayed that the LORD may show signs and wonders. God answered their prayers and the place, where they assembled together shook; and they were all filled with Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God courageously. (cf. Acts 4:27-31)

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8). He knows what is happening and He is in control.
