MOSES AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL SANG THE SONG OF MOSES
It was just after their deliverance from the enemy when Pharaoh and his army on
chariots was drowned in the Red Sea that the children of Israel sang a song unto
the Lord for the victory he gave over them. Moses and the children of Israel
sang a song which praised the LORD that he was their salvation and a man of war,
and his name was the LORD. Moses and the children of Israel acknowledged that he
was the God of their fathers, and they would prepare a habitation for him. They
sang to the LORD that the LORD cast Pharaoh and his chosen men and chariots in
the Red Sea and drowned them. As the stone would sink fast in water, Pharaoh and
his chosen men and their chariots sank in the Red Sea and went to the bottom of
the waters they sang. Moses and Israelites sang that the LORD's right hand was
powerful enough to crash them in to pieces. They sang that the Excellency of the
LORD has overthrown the enemy and made them like straw. It reminds us the straw
that the enemy withdrew from the children of Israel, when they were in the
bondage of slavery under Pharaoh, who persecuted them, beyond the limits of the
hardening of his heart that made God's wrath fall on him and his people. Moses
and the children of Israel sang that it was by the breath of his nostrils that
the waters of the Red Sea were divided in to two making a straight and dry path
for them to walk on it slowly but surely and safely to the other end of the Sea;
the waters parted and stood like heaps of stone on either side of the pathway.
The blast of breath of the nostrils of God was enough for the mighty waters of
Red Sea to obey him and part in to two, and rise up in to two pillar-like walls
on either side of the dry pathway. It reminds us the breath of God that he blew
in to the nostrils of man, when man became a living being. If God could give
life to man with the breath of his nostrils why not Red Sea would obey him? What
is the power of the Red Sea in comparison to the life God gave to a man made out
of mud? The waters stood in obeisance to the eternal God lifting up their head
as an acknowledgment of the greatness of their maker. The children of Israel
sang that their enemy thought they would pursue, they would overtake, they will
divide the spoil, their lust shall be satisfied upon them, they would draw their
sword, and their sword shall destroy them, not remembering their realization
earlier that it was the finger of God that did one of the ten miracles in Egypt.
The pride of the enemy was enormous but when God blew his wind over the Red Sea
they and their army and their chariots were drowned. The children of Israel
continued their song,
"Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in
holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?" (Exodus 15:11 KJV)
Moses and the children of Israel sang that the LORD has delivered them, he
guided and led them in to the holy habitation. They had hope that he would lead
forth in his mercy because they realized that the power of the LORD was so great
that when he stretched his right hand the swallowed their enemies. They also
sang that the people shall hear of the mighty works the LORD had done in Egypt
and how miraculously he delivered them and on hearing this they would be afraid, sorrow will overtake hold on the inhabitants of the country
of Philistines. They know that they have to go long way to reach their
destination at Canaan, and have to encounter many mighty men, like Pharaoh, on
their way, such as the ones in Philistines right next to them on their journey.
They now hopefully sing that the dukes of Edom will be amazed at the great works
the LORD had wrought in Egypt, the mighty men of Moab will tremble and all the
inhabitants of Canaan will melt like wax. They hopefully sing that fear will
overtake them and they will all be like a still stone until all of them whom he
purchased shall pass over. Moses and the children of Israel go on singing that
"The LORD shall reign for ever and ever" (Exodus 15:18 KJV)
And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and
all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam
answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse
and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. (Exodus 15:20-21 KJV)
