Sin and Atonement
Product Description
It is delight to see a rainbow in the sky just after a heavy rain. It looks
beautiful, attracts our attention, and many times we gaze at it and feel
happy that heavy rain receded. The sky looks cool and calm as if it is
relieved from a long stressful activity. Some keep rushing as if they fell
behind in their activities. It is so pleasant for everyone that normal
activities are resumed. Do we ever remember that it is a reminder for God
that his wrath was once upon this earth, and he promised that he would not
bring down upon mankind that kind wrath again? Yes, God promised and the
rainbow is a reminder for him of that promise that he made.
If we read the Scriptures we find that during Noah’s time there was
wickedness upon the face of the earth and God’s wrath brought heavy downpour
for forty nights and forty days and the entire living creature on the earth
was wiped out. Before destroying mankind God gave them ample opportunity to
repent and be saved, but only Noah and his family were delivered from the
wrath of God. Noah preached for one hundred and twenty days, and yet none
came to repentance and reaped the consequences of disobeying God. After God
saw that great devastation and destruction had visited mankind, he promised
that he will never destroy mankind with that kind of punishment any more.
The Word of God says that God repented for having created mankind.
The rainbow is a reminder for God that man is made of mud and he falls time
and again in sin. God destroyed mankind with fire and brimstone in Sodom and
Gomorrah during Lot’s period, and during Noah’s period he destroyed man with
huge downpour from skies. In another case, the inhabitants of whole city of
Nineveh, which in God’s sight was wicked, were saved by God, because they
repented of their sin and obeyed God. Jonah proclaimed God’s wrath on
Nineveh, but when he saw that the inhabitants of Nineveh were saved he was
upset. Then, God showed to Jonah as to how compassionate he was on those,
who repented of their sins.
In spite of chastisement by God, man never became perfect. He rather grew
from bad to worse. It is the constant belief in God and faith in God that
sustains a believer and keeps him triumphant over Satan and his cunning
devices. But, many a time, man falls into sin in his daily life.
It is with the reason of saving every man from eternal fire that God sent
his one and only begotten son into this world, so that the Son of God may
bear the sin of mankind, and die upon the cross. God made provision for
sinner to repent of his sin, and accept his one and only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ as personal savior. The gift of salvation is free for everyone and
anyone can this free gift by confessing one’s sins to God and accepts Jesus
as one’s personal savior.
