John 1:1. "In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with
God. All things were made through Him [that's the Word], and without Him
nothing was made that was made.
WAS JESUS THERE BEFORE CREATION
Just a few verses from Genesis chapter 1
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was
without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And
the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God
said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. And God saw the light,
that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God
called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening
and the morning were the first day.”
Please read John 1:1
John 1:1. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made
through Him [that's the Word], and without Him nothing was made that was
made."
The New Testament gives us enough evidence that all three Persons of the
Godhead were active in creation.
Let us now read Genesis 1:2
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.”
God the Father was the planner of all creation. The Spirit of God was
the force behind all creation. But it was God the Son who was the actual
creator. When it came time for the creation to take place--God the
Father, God the Sprit, and God the Son said, "Let the Son do it."
The gospel of John chapter 1 tells us that it is the Word who did the
act of creation. Who is this, “Word”? If we carefully read the verse we
find that the Word is none other than Jesus Himself. When the job
was--when the task was creation, the Word did the creation.
John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth.”
The question now is was there any Word other than Jesus. The Word that
became flesh is only one that is none other than Lord Jesus.
John 1:1 is a clear evidence that the creator in Genesis 1 is Jesus.
When the task was creation was done, every other thing eventually
followed, such as the upkeep of the creation, salvation of mankind,
redemption, justification, was on the shoulders of Jesus. He had to get
the things done.
Now let us turn to Colossians 1:14-20
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of
sins; Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every
creature; For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and
that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him,
and for him; And he is before all things, and by him all things consist;
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the
preeminence; For it pleased [the Father] that in him should all fulness
dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to
reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be]
things in earth, or things in heaven.”
Now let us turn to Hebrews, chapter 1:1-3
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by the prophets; Hath in these last days spoken unto us by
[his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he
made the worlds; Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right
hand of the Majesty on high.”
The writer of Hebrews here wants us to understand who Jesus is. He says,
verse 1, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time
past to the fathers by the prophets, has in the last days spoken to us
by His Son, [do we have any question as to who we are talking about
here? It's Jesus, His Son], "whom He appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds."
Here we have the writer of Hebrews telling us in chapter 1 that the God
of Genesis 1 is none other than Jesus. We have John telling us in
chapter 1 that the God of Genesis 1 is none other than Jesus. We have
The epistle of Paul to Colossians chapter 1 telling us the God of
Genesis 1 is none other than Jesus.
"Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.
So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and
earth, and all the host of them, were finished." Jesus did every day of
creation, looked back, and said, "That's good." The second day He took a
look at it and said, "That's good too!" And when He finished all of the
days of creation, He looked back and said, That's very good."
When the task of redemption came into play, again it fell on the
shoulders of Jesus. Godhead wondered "Who will We send to do it?" And
God the Father and God the Spirit said, "Send the Son." And the Son
said, "I'll go." The whole plan of our redemption, even before creation
happened, the whole plan of our redemptions was for Jesus to come and
die for us--and to finish the task which God the Father gave Him to do.
Take a look at John chapter 19. We find the crucifixion story; we know
it very well. John 19 tells us something about Jesus, which we all need
to take note of. John 19, let us come down to verse 28. John 19:
20--Jesus on the cross. He is accomplishing the task of our redemption.
He is dying at Calvary to pay the penalty for our sin. That's why He was
there. Jesus did not die as a martyr. He did not die as a good man, an
innocent man. He died as a sacrifice. He died in place sinners like you
and me. That's what the Bible says.
The blood of Jesus, the Son of God cleanses us from all sin, and the
entire hope of redemption that we have, the entire hope of eternity,
lies in the fact that Jesus got the job done on the cross. Think of
Jesus yielding to the shouts of those men who were witnesses at the
cross of Calvary that if He is the Son of God he should come down, save
Himself and save others. Oh! That would have been a greatest blunder
anyone could have done it. If only Jesus yielded to their shouts and
gotten down from the cross before He died, He would not have completed
the task; and you and I would have had no Redeemer. It is good that He
died on the cross of Calvary. That is how we did not need to die for our
sins. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins.
When Jesus said, "It is finished he said, "It is finished" because it
was finished. Nothing more needs to be added to our redemption, or
nothing more can be added to our redemption. Jesus finished the task and
it ended there. It does not need some one else go after Him to complete
any task that might any one think is left behind; no nothing is left
behind, and no one needs to do anything more.
The task of creation was in the hands of Jesus and He finished it. The
task of redemption was in the hands of Jesus and He finished it. It was
at the cross when He is about to die, He said, "It is finished" because
nothing more needed to be accomplished for your redemption and mine. Now
we are here sitting comfortably in this lovely place, enjoying the fruit
of His redemption; because Jesus always got the job done. Let no one
misunderstand that he is still creating or carrying out the task of
redemption. It is done. It is finished. We only need to believe in Him
and repose faith in Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior.
Where is Jesus after all now? Yes! Look at Mark 16:19
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into
heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
Do we have advocate to plead us guiltless. Yes! We have Jesus Look at I
John 2:1
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And
if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous”
Do we have someone who could intercede for us. Yes! We have Jesus. Look
at Romans 8:34
“Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that
is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.”
JESUS WAS THERE BEFORE CREATION. HE IS THE CREATOR.
