IS BAPTISM MANDATORY FOR SALVATION?
Various denominations from Christians dispute as to whether Baptism is mandatory
for salvation or not. A section of Christians attach human works as a condition
for obtaining Salvation. Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for our
salvation and it is free gift for all those confess their sins and accept him as
personal savior and acknowledge him as 'Lord". Jesus Christ paid the
penalty upon the cross of Calvary and he is asking nothing from us except
confession of sins and exercise total faith in him and acknowledge him by mouth
that He is the Savior. There are two sacraments shown in the Bible; one is
Baptism and the other one is Lord’s Supper. Baptism is an outward evidence of
inward acceptance of Lord Jesus Christ as one’s personal Savior, but Baptism is
not mandatory. Like wise, as we break the bread and drink from the cup at the
Lord’s Table we remember Lord Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.
These two are not mandatory but we do because we proclaim Lord’s goodness toward
us and asked us to do.
Lord Jesus Christ commanded in Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Ghost:” Here we see the Trinity and the way a person should be baptized.
Lord Jesus Christ has finished all the works for us upon the cross of Calvary by
paying penalty for our sins, and only mandatory thing that is left over for us
is to believe in him, have faith on him, and acknowledge Him as personal Savior
with mouth, after confessing sins to Him. That is how the second malefactor got
saved as we read in Luke 23:43 “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” The second malefactor, who prayed to
Lord Jesus Christ to remember him when He comes in his kingdom, was saved
instantaneously and Lord Jesus Christ assured him that the malefactor will be in
paradise the very same day when Jesus was to be there. The second malefactor was
not baptized yet was saved. Some dispute that Acquila and Priscilla
were not saved because they were not baptized, but the fact is that baptism was
not considered as the criterion for their salvation. We were all dead in
trespasses and sins but the grace of Christ we are saved through faith and the
salvation that is given to us is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man
should boast and say that salvation was achieved by him/her through his/her
works.
Ephesians 2:1-10 “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in
the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in
times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of
the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who
is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were
dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in
Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his
grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works,
lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he says, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the
day of salvation have I helped you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold,
now is the day of salvation.)
Dear Friend,
Today is the day of salvation. Please confess your sins
to Jesus Christ and be blessed. Receive Salvation and
eternal life. Jesus is the Way, the truth, and the
life. Holy
Bible says God created man, in his own image and named
him as Adam and God put him in a very comfortable place
called 'the garden of Eden' and gave him a wife, whom
Adam named as Eve. God gave Adam and Eve all the freedom
except for eating the forbidden fruit, which Eve and
Adam ate and brought sin into this world. In order to
redeem mankind from their sin God sent his one and only
son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sake, was buried,
rose from the dead and ascended in to heaven.
