"There is none like unto thee, Jehovah; thou art great, and thy name is great in
might" (Jeremiah 10:6)
After the house of Israel was carried away captive Jeremiah the prophet cautions
them to pay heed unto the words of Jehovah that they should be careful not to
worship idols made of men. The warning from Jehovah was that they should not
learn the ways of nations or be afraid of the written enactments of those
nations. God warned them they should not allow their courage to be destroyed by
fear when they see the signs of their astrology of heavens. (Jeremiah 10:1) The
Lord said that he was mighty to deliver them from any fear and captivity.
Speaking of the mighty power of Jehovah, Solomon the king said that no wisdom,
nor any understanding, or counsel against Jehovah will stand. He also said that
the mighty warriors may prepare horses for battle but the safety is entirely in
the hands of Jehovah. (Proverbs 21:30-31)
Here is the rock of our refuge, the Almighty God, who takes care of us. The
believers can boldly say that God takes care of them. The Church consisting of
believers is protected and its safety is in the hands of the living God. The
assurance is so great that no weapon that is formed against a saint will prosper
and the saint’s righteousness is of the Lord. Therefore, he shall condemn in
judgment every tongue that rises against his saints. (Isaiah 54:17)
God laid few conditions to the children of Israel to follow. They are told by
the prophet that the people in those nations make idols from the wood cut from
tree out of the forest, work it with chisel, and deck it with silver and with
gold. He says that these idols neither speak nor move out from the place where
they are placed. He says that they are carried by humans from one place to
another. The children of Israel are advised not to be afraid of those idols
because they can neither do any good nor any harm. (Jeremiah 10:4) Psalmist also
says that they have mouth but can not speak: they have eyes, but can not see.
(Psalms 115:5) Psalmist says that before the mountains were brought forth, our
God created heavens and earth and he was and is and he will be for ever. (Psalm
90:2)
Jeremiah continues to encourage them with the words of confidence that there is
none like our living God. Among all wise of the nations, there is none like unto
our living God. John says in Revelation 15:4 that the Lord is holy and all the
nations shall come unto him and pay homage before him.
Men may persecute the children of God but here is the God but nothing takes
place in any body’s life without his knowledge and permission. Everything works
for good for a believer in Christ and every good work for him is accounted for.
There is none like our great God, who is powerful to take care of us.
”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”
(Matthew 11:28)
