The Mission
The life of Moses contributes to an interesting study as it stands out unique in comparison with the life of Lord Jesus Christ. Moses had three major roles to perform, the first of which was to be the leader of Israelites, the second of which was to give law to the children of Israel and the third of which was to mediate between them and God.
Jesus came into this world as the way, the truth and the life, to redeem mankind from their sinful nature. He gave the mankind the beatitudes as found in Matthew Chapter 5, 6 and 7.
Jesus gave two great commandments as recorded in Mark 12:30-31 ”And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”.
These two commandments contain the essence of all the Ten Commandments. Jesus came to be a mediator between the Father and us. Moses was the deliverer of God’s children physically, while the mission of Jesus was to deliver spiritually of His people Jews first. Since Jews rejected him as Messiah the Gentiles had the privilege to approach God. But then this salvation to Gentiles was not planned all of a sudden. Apostle Paul says in Ephesians Chapter 3 and Romans chapter 11 that God’s plan to give salvation to Gentiles was hidden in God from the foundation of the world and was revealed in the New Testament.
”For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in” (Romans 11:25)
”But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises”. (Hebrews 8:6) The Old covenants included in them the shadows of new things to come. Old Testament law was stringent in nature, and the law demanded unconditional obedience. It was hard to keep the law that is in the Old Testament. In the New Testament God’s abundant grace is available. Man by confessing his sins to God and accepting Jesus as the Lord will receive eternal life. Repentance of sins to Jesus and accepting him as the Lord is sufficient to be saved. Lord Jesus Christ is the only mediator between man and the Father.
Jesus said, in John 10:30 ”I and my Father are one”.
