Leslie M. John
Once I was watching a squirrel hop jump and move forward and then it turning
back to see as if it missed something and later again hopping and jumping and
moving in opposite direction. My thoughts went back to ponder on the creation
account mentioned in Genesis Chapter 1. God made heavens, earth, plants, and
animals by His word and command, but when it came to make man God took some time to make him in his own image. I was thinking that God may have taken quite a great deal of delight to see tiny flies move around, tiny birds jump around, animals jump around, lions roaring, and elephants moving around. After creating man God desired to have fellowship with him and loved him so much. He gave him a helpmate and the man called her as Woman. The Woman was called as “Eve” because she was the mother of all living. The man was called as “Adam” (Gen. 2:19). The Woman was called as “Eve” (Gen 3:20).
When we create some art-work or draw a picture we are delighted to see our work and appreciate it. We want others to appreciate our work and appreciate us for doing that work. Let us think how much God desires to see we appreciate his work, his wisdom, and his ability to create the universe, the earth, the galaxy, the seas, you and me.
God also created supernatural heavenly beings that are called as Angels. The
word in Hebrew and Greek from which the word “Angels” derived was also applied
to human messengers. It is recorded in Colossians 1:16 that all things whether
visible or invisible were created by God and for him. In Hebrews 1:4-8 it is
recorded that the Son of God, Lord Jesus Christ was greater than angels. The
Father said “Thou art my Son, this day I have begotten thee” and He has ordered
the entire angelic host to worship the Son of God. The Father also said to him
that his throne is for and ever and the scepter of righteousness is the scepter
of his kingdom.
Yet when Jesus was in the form of man on this earth he was considered as little lower than the angels, just as man was considered as lower than the angels. Man is given the glory and honor to have dominion over all the works of God. The angels are the ministering spirits created by God. He takes care of the children of God. Jesus is always with the saved ones, and many times the children of God see angels helping children of God. Think about the wonderful way God has exalted man.
The words of Psalmist as prophesied in Psalm 8:3-9 are repeated in Hebrews 2:6-8 as fulfillment of the prophesy.
“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars,
which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field” (Psalms 8:3-7)
And, in Hebrews 2:9 we have wonderful declaration that Jesus was made little
lower than angels for suffering death on behalf of us and was crowned with glory and honor.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2:9)
