LET US BE BLESSED

Leslie M. John

”Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful”. (Psalms 1:1)

In Psalm Chapter 1the Psalmist mentions about three categories of people. He mentions firstly about the ungodly, secondly about sinners, and thirdly about scorners and he says that those who do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly and those who do not stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of the scornful are blessed.

The godly ways are honoring God and walking in his ways. In Joshua Chapter 1 verse 8 The Lord said to Joshua that the word of God should not depart out of his mouth, but he should meditate therein day in and day out and do according to what is written therein. The way to be prosperous and be blessed is that way as shown by the Lord.

”This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8)

The man who stands in the way of the sinners has inclination always to commit sin. The temptations are numerous and Satan does not lack the ingenuity needed to attack a person who stands in the way of sinners. To be among sinners is like being constantly in contact with infected persons. If sufficient precautions are not taken the entire time the infection spreads to healthy person. The person sitting in the scornful has always the possibilities of making scorn of salvation, God, and truth. There are those who say there is no God. There are those who say they do everything by their own intelligence.

”Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7)

Apostle Paul writes about the ungodly who lived during Noah’s period. The ungodly increased in number in the days of Noah wherefore God punished the whole world with huge deluge but saved Noah, who was a preacher of righteousness, and saved his family.

”And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5)

The ungodly sinners who reject Jesus will, no doubt, be judged at the ‘Great White Thorne’ and will be cast into the ‘lake of fire’ along with devil and his angels, and death and hell.

The godly are warned not to have company with ungodly. The godly are like the tree planted by the rivers of water and they delight in the word of God. The ungodly are like chaff which will be driven away by the wind.

The Lord knows the ways of the righteous but the ways of the ungodly shall perish. There is, however, hope for the ungodly sinners to seek help from the living God. The word of God says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God, that is salvation, is free gift from God and it is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are justified by his grace through redemption that is in Christ Jesus. For all those who accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior there is salvation and eternal life.

”For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:23-24)

”For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23)
