GOOD SHEPHERD

Leslie M. John

“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine”. (John 10:14)

Jesus is our high priest and MediatorJohn Chapter 10 deals with the subject of the relationship between Jesus and those who have accepted him as the Lord. Shepherd and his flock are compared to Jesus and his beloved ones. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He is the door and there is no other way to the pasture.

A thief does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but enters climbing the wall or by some other way. Jesus said, if any man enters by Him he shall be saved. A good shepherd gives life for his flock, but a hireling does not give his life. Hireling would run away leaving sheep helpless, when he encounters some danger. On the contrary, a good shepherd will leave ninety nine sheep aside and seek after the lost one sheep, and finds it and brings it back to the flock.

TODAY’S FEATURED DEVOTION

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and very God Himself.

He said “All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, ad shall shew it unto you”. (John 16:15)

TODAY’S FEATURED VERSE

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one”. (John 10:27-30).

Apostle Paul wrote about Jesus Christ in Colossians 1:15-18

“Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead that in all things he might have the preeminence”. (Colossians 1:15-18)

REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS

When we think of the sin King David did by committing adultery with Bathsheba we can not think of any reason why God would not forgive our sins. David was blessed one, God chose him to be King, yet one day when he saw from the roof of his home, a beautiful woman named Bathsheba washing herself, he sent messengers and took her, and committed sin with her. David repented and prayed…  “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!  For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned  and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.  (Psalm 51:1-4 ESV)

WORSHIP THE LORD

Jesus became poor for us even though he was rich in his glory and was with the Father from eternity. He said he is the beginning and he is the end; he is the Alpha and Omega. He is the creator of this universe, he owns everything, every creation and he is the King of kings, he is the Lord or lords, and he is the God of gods. (cf. Philippians 2:5-11)

Jesus says…
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)
“My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:29-30)
